When setting up your Hushmail account to a desktop or mobile mail application with two-step verification feature enabled, you’ll need to enter in some additional information into the Password field of your mail application.
Rather than using a verification code sent to an alternate address or a phone number, Hushmail will provide you with a 20-character IMAP/POP password (also known as a “backup verification code”), which you’ll enter in addition to your regular passphrase in the Password field of your mail application.
Where Do I Find My Backup Verification Code?
1. Sign in to your Hushmail account.
2. Go to the Preferences page by clicking the menu in the upper right corner, as shown here:
3. At the bottom of the Security tab, you will see a section labeled Using POP & IMAP, as shown below:
4. At the bottom of this section, you will see a line that reads your_passphrase, followed by a space and then a string of 20 letters separated by spaces.
When prompted for your password in the mail application you’re using, you’ll just need to enter in your Hushmail passphrase, then a single space, then the 20 letters that show on the Security tab (including the spaces between them).
For example, if your passphrase was your_passphrase, and your backup verification code was 12345 67890 12345 67890 as shown in the previous image, you’d enter all of the following into the Password field of your mail application:
your_passphrase 12345 67890 12345 67890
Troubleshooting Tip
Depending on the mail application, you may need to enter this in to the Password field for both the incoming and outgoing server settings sections.
